Dave Yanko Swaps Four Wheels For Two

David Yanko, 2015 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series runner up in Super Sedan, will lose two wheels at the next National Championship event in his hometown Portland on January 16-17.

A self confessed “bike guy all my life”, Yanko was forced to find a new ride for a local upcoming meet at South Coast Raceway when an errant piston punched a hole through the engine of his Holden HQ Ute.

With encouragement from 2013 Modified Bike Champion and good friend Gavin Dohnt, Yanko went into his shed and pulled out a Ducati that his son had been racing in the Australian BEARS Series and entered Portland’s Golden Bars event.

Jason Climbing The Stares To Championship Glory

December was a good month for Jason Stares in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

The Lucas Oil Corvette driver won his first ever ANDRA Christmas Tree trophy at Mildura Sunset Strip then bookended the month with his second Top Sportsman victory in the Rowe Memorial Super Stock Classic at Calder Park.

With a pair of Christmas Trees on the mantle Stares now hopes to double up again with back-to-back events at South Coast Raceway in Portland then the Australian Nationals back at Calder for the first time since 2001.

EXPERIENCE THE NOISE

Bare witness as two rival ground pounding, track scorching missiles, propelling themselves down the track in a best of 3 USA vs AUS Jetcar Challenge.

Hear the deafening ”pop” as they bring their gigantic jet engines to temperature, edging closer to the start line, then the “howling” of the turbines as the two beasts await the green light on the Christmas Tree.

Flaming afterburners heat the crowd within a hundred metre radius, the “popping” gets louder and more rapid. “Green” means go, and that they do. Velocity quickens the longer they go, accelerating faster than anything else on earth. Forward momentum hits 5+ G's, then it's a sudden -7 G's as they struggle to brake before the track runs out.
